The Philadelphia Eagles released Tim Tebow Saturday, which NFL.com confirmed shortly after Howard Eskin of SportsRadio 94 WIP in Philadelphia stated he received "many indications" Tebow would be among the players cut as head coach Chip Kelly looks to retain depth on the offensive line.

Tebow appeared to be one step closer to earning a place on the Eagles' regular-season roster after impressing Kelly in the preseason and with Matt Barkley being traded to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, according to ESPN.com's Phil Sheridan.

Kelly Views Tebow as Possible Situational QB Option

Thursday, Aug. 20

Russini noted Kelly could potentially use Tebow heavily on two-point conversion attempts and other short-yardage situations if he remained with the team.

The ship has almost certainly sailed on Tebow being a starting NFL quarterback. Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ Advance Media still hasn't seen a ton of improvement in the way of passing from the former Heisman Trophy winner:

I've seen basically every throw Tebow has made since he signed with #Eagles. He is inconsistent, but he can throw the football

With the league moving back point-after attempts, coaches might determine a two-point conversion is a gamble worth taking more often. Having a quarterback like Tebow, who is a threat to run and pass, would have been a luxury for Philadelphia in that regard.
